Skill mix-up (character sheet/rules)

Skill mix-up (character sheet/rules)

Postby Argamae on Mon Nov 03, 2008 11:43 am

Hi folks,

I noticed that there is some mix-up with skills on the downloadable character sheet and in the rules (Legendary Lives download).

Here's what I found so far:

* the skill listing on page 125 is missing BOW and CROSSBOW (both Dex skills)
* the character sheet is missing the SWORD skill (Str skill)

Also, I think RIDE should be placed under AGILITY - imho it is more a feat of body control than brawn. It would also free up Strength which already governs a lot of skills. In exchange you could place JUMP (an agility skill) under Strength, which is probably more of a brawn thing (musculature of the legs).

What do you think?

Thanks you for letting me know about the typos. I have fixed the table on page 125 and the Sword skill on the character sheet. Moving Ride to the Agility attribute makes sense to me. What do other people think?

Thanks for fixing it so quickly! :)

One other thing I noticed: how do you roll a religious lifeline? It says so on page 79 in the rulebook and there is a space for it on the 2nd page of the character sheet. But in the rules I did not find a table or anything?! Did I miss something or is something missing?

I must have missed the Religious Lifeline table when I was copying files from the printed verison. I copied the table from the hard copy. The Religious Lifeline table is now in the online version. Please feel free to let me know about any other corrections I need to make!

This is great, thanks a lot! As I am progressing through the online version of your games I will keep you posted about anything I come across! :)

I agree that Ride being an Agility skill makes a lot of sense.

Character sheet revision

Postby Gus on Sun Dec 28, 2008 5:51 am

Joe,
I've begun a new Legendary Lives campaign with a bunch of little guys--boys between 7 and 10. They are about the funniest bunch of players ever. However, could you change the armor/defense box at the top of the front page of the character sheet to include 1 through 6 for hit locations? It would save our seven-year-old players a little time from counting from the "head" on down (I let the players roll for the hit locations).

Thanks. And one of these days I'll have to write down a little of their adventures.

Hi, Gus.

If you want, there's a sheet in the Downloads section which is a series of randomized hit locations with checkboxes next to them. It lets the Narrator determine hit locations without a die roll, by just going down the sheet as needed. This way, the kids won't have to be bothered with it at all.

I have one of the players roll percentile dice for me at the start of a session so I know where to start on the sheet (they're numbered 00-99).

It's great that you're introducing the next generation to the hobby, and I look forward to reading about their adventures.

EDIT- Oops! I think I mis-read your question, Gus, Please disregard the above (except for the part about wanting to read about the kids' games, of course).

Gus,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have added the d6 values to the hit locations on the character sheet.

Character Sheet Fix

Postby Gus on Mon Dec 29, 2008 3:58 pm

Thanks, Sean and Joe. I have the new character sheet--now, that's what I call service. And I'll see what they think about using Sean's hit location sheet, but I think they enjoy rolling as many dice as possible.

Hi folks,

I have been rather busy since you moved your address. I will try to visit more regularly. In June or July I will offer a LEGENDARY LIVES session in our monthly gamers' meeting. I have not yet made up my mind whether to play one of the published adventures or making up my own. I'll keep you posted.
Oh, by the way: I found a copy of LL in a game store in Bremen, Germany and bought it right away. :)

Okay, I have found another ommission and came up with some new suggestions.

* Under "Religion" you got "Devotion" but the line "Miracles per day" is missing.

* I have suggested to put "Ride" under "Agility" since it is more a matter of body coordination than simple strength. A lot of the world's foremost riders (among them a lot of women) are not particularly strong. What is your final verdict, Joe?

* In that regard, since the dagger is used with the brawling specialty skill, it too seems to focus to heavily on strength. It might be reasonable to give it an extra category and to put it under "Agility" as well. One could split "swords" into "long blades" and "short blades". The latter could be made up of daggers, knives, short swords, rapiers and (maybe) cutlasses. The former would contain everything from long swords to Claymores.

* Maybe some space could be scrounged on the character sheet to make room for a portrait or drawing of the character

Thanks for the heads up about the missing miracles per day. I have corrected the character sheet.

Right now the online version of Legendary Lives has the same text as the printed second edition. While I fully agree with putting Ride under Agility, I'm a bit reluctant to make the change until I have enough material for a new edition. I've heard from a number of people who have the book who are using the online version for their players. I don't want to make minor changes to the online version because of the confusion it might cause.

I find it interesting that I put all the melee weapon skills under Strength. It would make more sense to sprinkle weapons between other attributes, making different weapons suitable for different characters. For example, I might put short blades under Dexterity because they require more finesse, making them the weapon of choice for thieves. I might put Pole Arms under Agility because of the balance and coordination they require. It would be interesting to see players gravitate to different weapons based on their character's attributes.

In the items section it says that certain weapons are two handed, but due to there being no symbol besides * which states they can be thrown with Aim, I resort to rationality. Obviously a bow is two handed, but a claymore can still be wielded with one hand albeit a bit harder.

Thank you for spotting this! The weapons list on page 148 was missing the "dagger" mark that identifies two-handed weapons. I just added it and now you'll be able to see which weapons require two hands.
